Summer Camp 2012

We are pleased to be able to offer a variety of exciting week-long programs for ages 4-16.  This summer, we have added some new classes based upon input from parents and our own creative initiative. Extended hours (until 5:00 p.m.) as well as early drop-off (8:00 a.m.) are available.  We are also offering some new sessions in the afternoon.  Please note the early-bird discount for registering before May 15, 2012 as well as an additional discount for currently registered Renaissance Kids students (see registration form for details).  As always, please feel free to call us with any questions.

Session 1A: July 9 to 13 - Explorations in Arts and Crafts for Ages 4-8
This session will be packed with a variety of activities, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, collage, and more.  Lots of different materials and techniques will be explored.  Please note that children may be divided into smaller groups depending upon their ages.  There will be an art show at the end of the week for parents and friends.  It is strongly suggested that your child bring a smock or wear old clothes as we will be getting messy!  Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Extended hours/early drop-off available.

Session 1B: July 9 to 13 - Musical Theater for Ages 9-16
Students will develop their singing, acting, and performance skills through daily exercises, activities, rehearsals, and acting games.  There will be a performance at the end of the week for family and friends. Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Extended hours/early drop-off available.
 
Session 2A: July 16 to 20 - Kids Musical Theater for Ages 4-8
Children will develop art, music, acting, singing, reading, and public speaking skills this week.  We will work on planning, character and set design and creation, staging, cooperation and working together, and rehearsing.  There will be a performance at the end of the week for family and friends.  Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Extended hours/early drop-off available.

Session 2B: July 16-20 - Claymation Movie-Making for Ages 9-16
Students will create an animated movie using clay "actors" that they have made themselves.  Learn and have lots of fun by following the complete process from the initial idea, story-board, character building, photography and filming, through to the computer editing and addition of sound and voice-over.  Students will receive a DVD of their completed movie.  Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Extended hours/early drop-off available.

Session 2C: July 16 to 20 - Emergent Readers and Writers Workshop with Art & Music for Ages 5-8
Designed to help young beginning readers and writers gain confidence and build skills, the topics covered will include phonics, sight words, comprehension, and organization of sentences and paragraphs.  Children will receive both group lessons that focus on specific skills as well as individual guidance, and may be divided into subgroups depending upon their ages and abilities.  Projects will integrate writing and reading with art and music in fun ways.  Special workshop hours:  Monday through Friday, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Session 3A: July 23 to 27 - Puppet Theater for Ages 4-8
Children will develop art, music, acting, singing and public speaking skills as they create and perform their own puppet show.  Students will learn how to make several different types of puppets.  We will work on planning, character and set design and creation, staging, cooperation and working together, and rehearsing our performance for the show at the end of the week.  Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Extended hours/early drop-off available.

Session 3B: July 23 to 27 - Dramatic and Comic Performance for Ages 9-16
Students will build confidence and refine techniques in this session which will benefit all levels, from the novice to the experienced.  Character building, improvisation, articulation, memoization, rehearsals, and production.  Performance at the end of the week.  Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Extended hours/early drop-off available.

Session 4A: July 30 to August 3 - Jungle Adventures Drumming, Music, and Art for Ages 4-8
A fun-packed "safari" experience filled with singing, drumming, art, acting, and adventure.  Children will learn basic music concepts which will ready them to play any instrument.  Creative art activities and a performance at the end of the week.  Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Extended hours/early drop-off available.

Session 4B: July 30 to August 3 - Music Recording Studio for Ages 9-16
We will be making a CD!  All student musicians and singers will have a blast working together to learn, rehearse, and perform a selection of popular music.  Students will receive a CD copy of their recording studio efforts.   Students playing an instrument other than piano or drums should bring their instrument. All levels of performers, beginners through advanced, are welcome.  Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Extended hours/early drop-off available.

Session 5A: August 6 to 10 - Kids Musical Theater for Ages 4-8

Session 5B: August 6 to 10 - Creative Digital Photography for Ages 9-16
Fine art and digital photography merge in creative ways in this session.  Learn about lighting, composition, and camera techniques, as well as incorporating hand-coloring and other fine art techniques into your photographs to create unique works of art.  Students must bring their own digital cameras; all other materials are supplied.  Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Extended hours/early drop-off available.

Session 5C: August 6 to 10 - Fundamentals of Math with Art & Music for Ages 5-8
This unique workshop will help build confidence and understanding of math through art and music activities and projects.  Math concepts covered will include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions.  Students may be divided into subgroups depending upon their ages and abilities.  Special workshop hours: Monday through Friday, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Session 6A: August 13 to 17 - Puppet Theater for Ages 4-8

Have fun making a music video!  Participate in all aspects of the production, planning, set creation, filming, lighting, choreography, directing, producing, and editing.  Each student will receive a DVD of their project.  Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Extended hours/early drop-off available.

Session 7B: August 20-24 - Studio Art for Ages 9-16
This week-long workshop will include drawing and painting, sculpture, collage, and printmaking.  Students will learn about color, shading, form, light, shadows, texture, composition, perspective, and creating the illusion of depth.  We will be using a variety of media.  All of the art supplies are included.  It is recommended that artists bring a smock or wear old clothes.  Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Extended hours/early drop-off available.


Session 7C: August 20 to 24 - Creative Writing Workshop for Ages 9-16
This workshop, designed to build confidence, fluidity, and eloquence in written expression, is for all levels of writers.  Daily lessons will address specific topics including organization, sentence structure, dialog, and description.  Students will also receive individual help and guidance based upon their specific needs. Special Workshop hours: Monday through Friday, 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Session 8A: August 27 to 31 - Kids Musical Theater for Ages 4-8
Children will develop art, music, acting, sining, reading, and public speaking skills this week.  We will work on planning, character and set design and creation, staging, cooperation and working together, and rehearsing.  There will be a performance at the end of the week for family and friends.  Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Extended hours/early drop-off available.

Fees/Payment:  Weekly tuition for the half-day program (9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.) is $150.00/week. Extended hours (until 5:00 p.m.) are available at an additional cost of $135.00/week.  Activities in the extended hours program include music, art, acting, and games.  Early drop-off (8:00 a.m.) is also available at an additional coast of $50.00/week.  Special afternoon workshop Sessions 2C and 5C are each $90.00/week.  Special afternoon workshop Session 7C is $120.00/week.  Early-bird and registered Renaissance Kids student discounts are available - please refer to the registration form.  Students in the half-day program should bring lunch; extended hours attendees should bring and addition meal for the afternoon. Afternoon workshop attendees may bring a light snack/drink. Registrations may be mailed, delivered in person, or transacted over the telephone.  Limited enrollment; no refunds after June 15, 2012.
