Summer Camp 2024

Since 2005, it has been our privilege to provide unique and fun summer learning opportunities for students ages five to sixteen. There are different activities during each of our six summer camp weeks. Our facility features a beautiful, shady backyard, so that we are able to be inside (air conditioned), and outside, throughout the camp day.

All programs have been designed right here at Renaissance Kids, Inc.  We teach real skills in fun and imaginative ways, and strongly believe that music and the arts provide positive outlets for individual expression. Our camps, like our year-round classes, provide opportunities for students to work effectively with others and to develop their unique individual abilities. We strive to inspire students to seek creative solutions to problems and to help them discover their full potential.

A description of what is covered during each weekly Summer Camp session can be found below.  The regular camp day begins at 9:00 am and ends at 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday. For parents needing an early drop-off (8:00 am) or late pick-up, please pre-arrange the days and times that you need. The cost is $15.00 per hour for the amount of additional time that you would like.  Students that are here for after-hours partake in arts, crafts, music, acting, and other games and activities. There is an early-bird discount for registering by April 30, 2024, and an additional discount for currently-registered Renaissance Kids students (please refer to the registration form for details). All campers should bring a lunch, snack, and extra water. Feel free to call or email us with any questions.

Weekly Summer Camp 2024 Program Schedule

Session 1: July 8 to 12 – Claymation Movie-Making for Ages 5-16

Campers work in age-appropriate groups to create their original animated movies. Finished movies are posted on our YouTube Channel. Students work hands-on, from the initial idea, to creating the story-board, designing and building the sets, character design and creation, planning the shots, lighting, camera work, recording dialogue, sound, visual effects, and editing. There will be a movie screening at the end of the week.

Session 2: July 15 to 19 Musical Theater for Ages 5-16

Campers of all skill levels will have fun performing in a short production. Students are immersed in all aspects of the process, including building sets and making costumes. This is a fun way to practice and develop skills in acting, singing, speaking, reading, and memorization. There are also lots of fun games and music activities designed to help performers become comfortable and confident on the stage. Students will be grouped age appropriately.  There is a performance at the end of the week.

Session 3: July 22 to 26 Music Video for Ages 8-16

Make a music video! Students participate in phases of the production, from the initial idea to creating the concept and story-line, designing and building the set, planning the shots, acting, lighting, camera work, sound, dialogue, effects, and editing. All skill levels welcome. It is NOT required that students play an instrument or sing. There will be a movie screening at the end of the week, and all participants receive a link to watch their movie.

Session 4: Aug 5 to 9 - Art & Music Around the World for Ages 5-16

Learn about people and places throughout the world through arts and crafts, music, games, story-telling, and other fun activities. We will delve into the unique music, arts and crafts, musical instruments, and mythology of many countries in order to enrich our understanding and knowledge. There will be an exhibit and a performance at the end of the week. Students will be grouped age-appropriately.

Session 5: Aug 12 to 16 – Music, (Piano or Guitar or Violin), & Art for Ages 5-16

This camp is appropriate for both experienced students seeking to advance at the piano, guitar, or violin, as well as beginners.  Each participant will receive one-on-one instruction as part of the camp day so that all students are advancing at their own pace.  Students will also learn through many other group music and art activities.  Group music activities include song-writing, music theory games, and ensemble performance.  Arts and crafts include painting, drawing, sculpture, and more. Guitar or violin students, please bring your own guitar or violin.  There is a performance and an art exhibit at the end of the week.

Session 6: Aug 19 to 23 - Designing Clothing & Accessories for Ages 8-16

Campers create their own fashion and unique designs. The camp will cover elements of design, color, draping, sewing, types of fabrics, types of fibers, and pattern-making. Students will be grouped according to age. Each group’s activities will be tailored to their age group. No prior experience is required. Students should bring at least one or two items to embellish or “repurpose” if possible. We will also be creating new items, and invite students to bring in any fabric, buttons, etc. that they may already have at home and want to use.
